I have been using this product to polish silver for 48 years and wouldn't ever consider using another product. Hagerty's is a tried and true silver polish that works on absolutely anything made of silver. And, yes, it can take lots of "elbow grease" to get some of the tarnish off the silver if it's been there for a while but Hagerty's DOES take it all off. Even Mexican silver which can be quite soft responds beautifully to Hagerty's.One of the features I've always liked best about Hagerty's is that it prevents future tarnish from building up for months and months and months. Also, if the silver is wrapped in tissue paper then put in an air tight bag, Hagerty's will protect the silver for years. It is truly an amazing product. . . .forty-eight years has proven that to me over and over. Fantastic silver polish. We found a whole box of silverware when we moved and decided to try to polish them up for daily use. All items in the box were given to us by parents and have been in the box for the last 20 some years. Imagine the tarnish on them! I found a few pieces of polish cloth to start. It worked but it requires a lot of elbow grease and patience. I went on Amazon to search for an easier alternative. This product seems to have most raves and I was very willing try for less than $15. Product arrived on time. The polish is a thick liquid (like concentrated dish soap) in red clay color. It has certain odor to it, not offensive but nor pleasing. I poured it on some silverware and rubbed with cloth. It is truly amazing to see how soon the stuff worked its way to remove tarnish, black spots and shine up the platters, spoons, etc. I rinsed with gentle soap and water - the instruction allows simple wiping/rubbing off by cloth. I personally wouldn't be too comfortable serving food with the polished silver without washing. Most of my silverware came out very nice and clean after one round of rubbing and rinse. A few that sustained too much damage needed another round of polishing. I used about half a bottle to clean a big platter, 4 or 5 medium size serving plates, 3 sets of serving folk/knife, and a cute dinner bell (not sure whether mom ever used that to let dad know dinner is ready :-). I applied pretty massive amount to those old pieces. I can imagine most silver probably doesn't need that much to drown in. All in all, this is a very effective and economical polish to use.A few tips for those who intend to use this:1. wear latex gloves or something to keep your hands clean. I used the polish with and without gloves. The product is not abrasive to hurt skin on my hands but my hands got dark as black tarnish was cleaned off from silverware. If some got underneath nails, it's hard to clean.2. Cover your work surface, especially if you plan to do the polishing on a light colored countertop. The same dark gunk from cleaning will make a mess of your work area.3. Keep a few clean towels around to wipe your hands - for sure your phone will be ringing when your hands are full of the polish.Enjoy your shiny silver! The tarnish preventative in this product retards the oxidation that causes silver to tarnish. Consequently, your silver stays brighter much, much longer. My silver tea service sits out 24/7 and only gets polished about 3 times a year. I ordered this after getting sick of looking at some tarnished antique silver cups and other silver items I had inherited. The cups were a sort of brownish deep grey color. Hagerty's worked, but it took some experimentation to find the best technique for heavy tarnishing. A thin layer of the stuff (applied with a cloth) is good to get started. Using the same cloth, wipe it off after a couple minutes. This will start to remove heavy tarnish. Using the same cloth, just keep rubbing. The cloth will turn black (from the tarnish coming off) - keep rubbing. I found that a cloth that was black with tarnish actually worked better at removing the remaining tarnish than grabbing a clean cloth and applying more Hagerty's to it. Very strange, but you can't argue with results!Do be prepared to spend several minutes per object getting them clean. Folds and creases can be especially trying. After doing this myself I have a new appreciation when I see the servants spending a lot of time polishing silver in Downton Abbey!Edit: I've attached a picture of two identical bowls, one that I polished with Hagerty's, one that I didn't, see for yourself what a difference a good polishing will make. I grew up using this, then I lost track of it. I moved and didn't find it in the stores where I shop. Well, welcome 21st Century! Just get on-line and find the good products. I have used so many different kinds of silver polish in the past several years and threw tens of dollars out the window. Most of them really smell bad and they don't even do a good job on my silver. They don't get the tarnish off and my hands and fingers were sore trying to make them work. I got so sick of wasting my time - and breathing that foul air. Finally, a bell went off in my head and I went on-line. I'm back with Hagerty Silver Polish. No kidding, I dare you to find a better silver polish. And, it won't ruin your nice stuff. i used tarn-x on my sterling silver jewelry and could not get it to shine.... just got Hagerty's polish in the mail and this stuff worked instantly! What a difference..... I'm throwing away the tarn-x and will only ever use Hagerty products for my jewelry! I recently came across a gorgeous silver goblet and urn in our church cupboards. Google research led me to their origins - early 1930s (our church is about 120 years old). Needless to say, they were showing their age, with 80 years of tarnish, fingerprints, etc. I took some photos (imagine if one of those prints was 80 years old! The history!), and busted out the bottle of Hagerty polish that arrived the day before. It took several applications, but within about 20 minutes, the goblet was gleaming like it had been forged yesterday. Gone was the nasty tarnish, the fingerprints, the dark spots. Midway through polishing, I had to open windows and turn on the vent fan (should've done this first!), but once the fumes dissipate, they're truly gone, so your work area doesn't smell like chemicals for hours. After seeing the work this product did on a precious goblet, I tried it on my silver jewelry (I had previously used toothpaste, which worked OK, but isn't good for the finish). Amazing results again. I'm sold! I wanted the least abrasive polish, and Hagertys delivers. It's very gentle, so maybe not as fast as others, but I'm willing to spend a little more time to preserve the plating. It's hard to discern from the bottle descriptions, whether a product has abrasives, but the manufacturers' web sites usually have the msds or other product info that reveals that very few of them don't use micro-abrasives. Hagerty doesn't. Great polish. Hagerty Silver Polish products are fantastic. I use them at home and at work. We have an electroplating shop and if a specialty item needs a little touch up this polish does the trick! This is still one of the very good sliver polishes on the market. I first used the Hagerty spray on silver tarnish remover and then followed up with this polish to help restore the shine to our silverware. It takes a little working with this product and you should not cover a very large area at one time as once it dries into the cracks and crevices it takes even more work to remove it. The polish does what it is supposed to do and is a very good product.
